Kinesio® Taping
Kinesio Taping is used in hospitals, clinics, recreational athletes, and by professional sports teams all over the world to promote lymphatic fluid movement, change muscle tone, improve posture, support muscle and joint , and correct movement patterns.
What is Kinesio Taping Therapy?
The Kinesio Taping method was developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase in the early 1970’s. When the lymphatic system accumulates edema and cellular waste, it can cause pain and pressure on tissue and nerves. When Kinesio Tape is applied over the swollen area, the tape lifts the top layer of skin, creating a space between the epidermis and underlying tissues. This space creates a pressure that promotes lymphatic draining which removes excess fluid in the lymphatic system, reducing inflammation, decreasing pain and accelerating the healing process. This safe, gentle, flexible, and durable tape can also aid in re-educating the neuromuscular system when injury or poor form has negatively impacted movement patterns. Kinesio Tape supports injured, overused, or tired muscles by reducing pressure on tissue, and preventing over-extension or over-contraction. It can be worn during intense exercise, bathing, showering, and swimming. The tape is non-restrictive and allows for full range of motion unlike traditional sports tape.
How is the Tape Applied?
The muscles are held in a stretched position while the tape is applied. Our certified doctors will utilize various application techniques for certain conditions and injuries to increase effectiveness.
